Nansha district in Guangzhou saw over 1.2 million tourists during this year's May Day holiday, which ran from April 29 to May 3, marking a 57 percent increase from last year.
Major tourist attractions in Nansha were packed with visitors, displaying a robust spending power. The district has been actively tapping into its diverse resources and organizing more than 30 events of various kinds during the holiday, creating a festive atmosphere.
The first "Coffee Culture Week" was held in Nansha Bay, featuring 23 local coffee shops and attracting over 8,000 visitors.
Wanda Plaza and Ufun, a shopping mall near Jiaomen River, organized a series of promotional activities, with passenger flow increasing by 15.8 percent and 110 percent respectively.
Traditional tourist spots, such as Nansha Tianhou Palace, Nansha Wetland Scenic Area and Nansha Bird Park, also saw a significant increase in ticket sales. The number of visitors to these places more than doubled from last year.
To stimulate consumption, Nansha district launched a variety of themed promotional activities, and distributed government consumption vouchers and cultural tourism consumption vouchers.
Nansha's consumer market saw a surge as the May Day Fresh Life Festival, which was held on Longxue Island, generated sales of over 700,000 yuan ($101,315) in a single day.
