The "Understanding China·Greater Bay Area Dialogue" opened on April 19 in Guangzhou, the capital city of south China's Guangdong province. During the event, a parallel seminar entitled "New Development Trends in Great Bay Area of China and Beyond" was also held.
Focusing on the theme of the conference, the attending domestic and foreign guests discussed how to understand the common and important development laws of world-class bay areas. They also discussed topics such as how Guangzhou's Nansha district, Shenzhen's Qianhai, Zhuhai's Hengqin, Hong Kong, and Macao can all achieve complementary advantages and coordinated development.
Xie Wei, deputy Party secretary of the Nansha Economic and Technological Development Zone, and Sun Yong, member of the standing Committee of CPC Nansha District Committee and head of Nansha's publicity department, attended the parallel seminar. Xie introduced Nansha's development achievements throughout the last few years from the perspectives of innovation, industry, capital, and talents.
The GBA is one of the areas with the highest degree of openness and the best development foundation in China, while Nansha is the most promising platform for development in the GBA. In 2022, the district achieved a GDP of 225 billion yuan ($33 billion), an increase of 4.2 percent, ranking first in the city in terms of growth rate.
In the first quarter of this year, major economic indicators such as fixed assets investment, total sales of wholesale and retail goods, and total retail sales of social consumer goods all grew at double-digit rates.
