The Nansha-Zhongshan Intercity Railway was recently approved to start construction in April. It is expected to be completed and open to traffic in December 2027, making for a total construction period of 56 months.

The railway is due to start from Guangzhou's Wanqingsha Station and end at Xingzhong Station in Zhongshan. Three of the stations are located in Nansha district.

It will adopt a mixed operation mode of fast and slow trains to give full play to the advantages of high-speed train operations while also improving the passenger flow at larger stations.

The line will connect with Guangzhou's Metro Line 18 and have a designated maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour. Upon completion, it will take just 10 minutes to commute from Nansha to Zhongshan.
