New progress has been made in the construction of the "ecological levee" for the urban development and construction project that is being carried in the Pearl Bay Area in Nasha district, Guangzhou, local media outlets reported on Nov 30.
Nansha is vulnerable to floods and typhoons because of its close proximity to the Pearl River. Therefore, when planning Hengli Island's urban development and construction project, the idea of building an "ecological levee" with high-level flood-control capacity was proposed and approved.
The project's construction team improved the self-embedded bottle-hole brick technology. The bricks that will be used for this project are made of pervious concrete and can better consolidate the soil as well as protect foundation.
These bricks can also provide better growth conditions for green plants while improving the ability of urban surface water seepage, purification and storage, so as to better build an ecological city.
The plan for these new bricks is to restore the original ecological environment. The bricks will be placed tightly onto the original soil surface, then their interiors will be filled with planting soil, which does not only increase their weight and strengthen their structural stability, but can also become homes to cave dwelling animals on the sea shore.
