Located at the tip of Lingshan Island, the first phase of the Nansha Pearl Bay Area cross-river channel project started construction on Nov 26, and is expected to be open to the public in 2026.

The project, which features a total length of 5.75 kilometers, is a dual-way six-lane road with a designated speed of 50 km per hour. The first phase of the project will begin on Jiangling South Road and end on Dayuan Road, with a length of 1.09 km.

The project's open-cut section on Lingshan Island's north bank will cover a length of 155 meters, its pipe-sinking section in the river will be 305 meters, and the open-cut section on Hengli Island's south bank will be 630 meters.

Once the foundation pit excavation is completed, the project will give priority to the construction of reinforced concrete box structures, and then pave roads within the box structures. These structures will provide safety as they prevent underground water and surrounding soil from entering into the tunnel.

As Nansha's first intelligently constructed immersed tunnel, the project will not only effectively shorten the travel distance from Lingshan Island to Hengli Island's core business area, but also connect the permanent sites of the Great Bay Science Forum and the International Financial Forum (IFF) upon its completion.
