Guangzhou is China's first city to promote the achievements made in the collaborative development of intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) and smart cities, local media outlets reported on Aug 23.
The city plans to produce 5 million vehicles by 2025, among which over 80 percent will be ICVs.
It has been gradually promoting the development of autonomous driving, as well as high-speed road tests in pilot districts including Nansha, Huangpu, Panyu, Huadu, and Haizhu.
Pony.ai, a Nansha-based autonomous driving company, is accelerating the district's intelligent transportation efforts with high-end technologies, innovative products, and good services.
Its demonstration area, which covers all of Nansha, has set up more than 500 stations in residential areas, commercial centers, transportation hubs, schools, as well as hospitals, providing more travel convenience for residents.
Valued at $8.5 billion, the company's autonomous driving service PonyPilot+ now covers cities like Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen.
