Nansha was highlighted in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) on Guangzhou Urban Infrastructure Development, which was released on July 11, in which it stated that a modern infrastructure system adhering to the development of a global metropolitan area will be formulated.
The document also put forward that the layout of underground and overground infrastructure networks will be further optimized.
The Nansha Port area will be designed as the core function area for global shipping, while Huangpu and Xinsha ports will be major ones serving Nansha Port. In addition, more cargo transport businesses will be transferred to Nansha, Xinsha, and Huangpu ports.
Projects like the fourth phase of Nansha Port and the Nansha Near-Sea Terminal will be completed in the 14th Five-Year Plan period, while the fifth phase of Nansha Port will start planning and design to meet the development trend of super-large cargo ships. In addition, shipping routes will be upgraded, such as the main one connecting Nansha Port and the Xijiang River shipping trunk line.
The Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway will finish construction by 2025, while the expressway connecting Huangpu and east Nansha will be moved forward. More direct express roads and metro lines connecting downtown Guangzhou with the nearby districts of Nansha, Zengcheng, and Conghua will be built.
The planning and design for the intercity rail transit running between Nansha and Zhuhai (Zhongshan) will be launched to help form a one-hour rail transit circle with Guangzhou being its center.
