According to the 14th five-year plan (2021-25) for the development of agriculture and rural areas in Guangzhou, the city will mobilize all possible resources to establish agricultural technology platforms, one of which, the Guangzhou Academy of Agricultural and Rural Sciences, will be located in Dongchong town of Nansha district.
The Guangzhou Academy of Agricultural and Rural Sciences will be devoted to seed industry research, tests and research on the quality and safety of agricultural inputs and products, as well as the development of digital agriculture. It is also expected to play a significant role in new crop variety, technology promotion, and agricultural science popularization.
Government departments in Guangzhou should undertake tasks according to the natural resources they own and their industrial advantages, so that the spatial pattern of agricultural production factors in the city can be further optimized, according to the plan.
Nansha will give full play to its advantages in the seed industry and strive to make innovations in the agriculture and rural fields during the 14th five-year plan period (2021-25).
The plan also proposed that by 2025, the sown area of grain crops in the city should be maintained at more than 28,000 hectares and the annual grain output should reach the number set by Guangdong. Nansha will also be built into a grain and oil processing trade zone to ensure that these goals can be achieved.
