Updated: 2022-06-02chinadaily.com.cn

A freight train loaded with air conditioners, LED screens, lamps, lanterns and other items made in China departed from Nansha Port South Station for Europe on May 30.

The train is expected to arrive in Europe in 15 days via Alashankou Port in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

This is the first Europe-bound train to run since Nansha Port Railway opened to traffic. With the help of the train, the time for goods being transported from Nansha Port to Europe will be reduced by two days, according to He Wang, a local logistics company manager.

"Goods can be sent to Europe directly from Nansha Port now, which means the time and cost of container transfer and storage will be reduced," said He.

The train will promote the development of logistics industries in the area and inject new momentum into the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.

It will also help to construct an international sea-rail combined transportation hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
