The 1.15-kilometer overpass over Panyu Avenue's main line opened to traffic on May 25, replacing the original Tangxi overpass to become a major passage connecting the northern and southern parts of Panyu Avenue.
The Tangxi overpass was a two-way four-lane overpass, while the new overpass is a two-way six-lane overpass, providing higher traffic capacity. It only takes around two minutes to pass the overpass at a speed of less than 40 km per hour.
Of note, ground roads of the overpass will continue to be two-way four-lane roads to make way for further construction.
The overpass is a node project on the Nanda Express, which stretches 30 km from Zhongsan Road in the west to Lianhua Avenue in the east. The east section of the expressway, running from Shixin Road to Lianhua Avenue, was put into trial operation on June 30, 2021.
It has 23 interchanges, eight tunnels, and 10 overpasses, allowing motorists to transit to five main traffic arteries, including Dongxing Express, Panyu Avenue, and Xinhua Express.
The Nanda Express is expected to start operation in June 2023 and the designated speed will be 80 km/h, twice the designated speed of the original roads.
