The Nansha School for Hong Kong Children signed to settle in the Hong Kong-style international community of Dongchong town in Guangzhou's Nansha district on March 14.
Its total investment is about 760 million yuan ($119 million), and it covers a total area of 93 mu (6.2 hectares) and a construction area of 76,000 square meters.
It will contain 36 classes and an estimated student population of 1,620. Scheduled to open in September this year, the school will provide high-quality basic education for children from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, as well as children of overseas Chinese and foreigners in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Construction of the school started on Nov 1, 2021. The main structure of the first teaching building was capped on Jan 25, 2022.
At present, the construction of the main structures of the dormitory building, administrative building, and sports ground is being carried out. The dormitory building will be capped by March 30, 2022, according to the plan.
The project contains Hong Kong elements. It is a demonstration cooperation project between Guangdong and Hong Kong.
Upon completion, the non-profit school will adopt the characteristics and management mode of famous Hong Kong schools.
The school boasts a number of top Hong Kong education talents working on its teaching management, which not only aids the school's enrollment guarantee of Hong Kong children in the Greater Bay Area but is also expected to improve the level of Nansha's education services.
In recent years, Nansha has deepened its construction as a demonstration zone for all-around cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, with nearly 3,000 Hong Kong and Macao enterprises settling in the district.
