On Tree Planting Day, March 12, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) hosted a volunteer tree planting activity.
Lu Yixian, Party secretary of Nansha district, and other Nansha officials attended the event.
During the activity, 60 trees were planted, mostly autumn maples, banyan trees, and other tree species, adding 4,500 square meters of new green space.
Nansha has steadily increased the pace of the expansion of green areas in recent years as a result of scientific planning, and the ecological environment of Nansha has steadily improved.
Currently, Nansha district's urban built-up area is comprised of around 5,620 hectares of green space, with a green coverage rate of 38.7 percent. The overall area of green space in parks is 22 square kilometers, with a per capita green space of 25.9 square meters, leading in Guangzhou.
Nansha will encourage comprehensive forestry management in the future, including forest resource conservation.
