The Guangdong Guangchuan International Marine Science and Technology Research Institute held its opening ceremony in Nansha district, Guangzhou on Feb 28.

The institute will focus on the key technologies used in developing the cutting-edge ocean ships, as well as promote the ocean economy and the sci-tech development of the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The institute will also carry out the R&D of cutting-edge ships, polar ocean equipment, as well as electromechanical equipment. It will also conduct research on experimental technologies like intelligent welding and measurement testing.

It now has three centers: a ship R&D center, an equipment industry R&D center, as well as an engineering experiment center.

At present, the institute's research has led to the world's first polar heavy-deck carrier, methanol dual-fuel ship, and other cutting-edge research tasks, enabling it to form an international leading advantage.
