On Feb 17, a No 32 Yuehai shield machine machine, with a diameter of more than eight meters, was used to successfully connect the GZ16#-GZ17# shield section of the Pearl River Delta water resources allocation project, local media outlets reported.
This is the sixth water tunnel with a distance of more than 1,000 meters opened through the Pearl River Delta region water resources allocation project this year, marking further progress in this important livelihood project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
With a total length of 113.1 kilometers, the project carries water through the core urban agglomeration of the Pearl River Delta region by deep pipelines. It is the largest water project, with the largest investment scale, the longest water transmission line, and the widest area in Guangdong history.
The completion of the water tunnel was three days ahead of the expected construction period, laying a strong foundation for the whole project to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2023.
The shield tunnel opened is 1,669.34 meters long. It is composed of a water transport trunk line and a Nansha branch line.
