Nansha GDP exceeds 200b yuan in 2021

The second session of the 4th Nansha district People's Congress opened on Jan 20. The meeting reviewed the achievements that Nansha made in 2021 and made a work plan for 2022.

Nansha's GDP exceeded 200 billion yuan ($31 billion) last year, with 238 projects signed and completed, by means of a total investment of over 700 billion yuan. Nansha was also approved as one of the first batch of high-level open cross-border trade and investment pilot projects in China.

It was also approved to be a national offshore innovation and entrepreneurship base for overseas talents, with its number of postdoctoral researchers accounting for one-fifth of the city's total.

The trade facilitation index of Nansha Area of China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone ranks first in China.

In addition, Nansha International Logistics Center was completed and put into operation last year. The port's container throughput reached 17.66 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), its cargo throughput was 355 million metric tons, and 21 new foreign trade routes were opened.

The development of the Pearl Bay area and the Qingsheng area has accelerated, while the district ranked at the forefront of the city in environmental air quality indicators, such as PM2.5 and PM10 concentration.

Last year, Nansha created 15,800 urban jobs. It established 16 public kindergartens, as well as established sister-school relationship with nearly 40 pairs of Hong Kong and Macao schools.

In 2022, Nansha aims to increase its GDP by more than 10 percent and its general public budget revenue by 8 percent.
