Concrete was successfully poured for the first baseplate of the Nansha School for Hong Kong Children, meaning construction on the main structure is about to begin, Nanfang Plus reported on Jan 5.

The school is located in the Hong Kong community of the Guangdong-Hong Kong In-depth Cooperation Park, with a total area of about 93 mu (6.2 hectares). It will contain 36 classes and an estimated student population of 1,620. All enrolled students must be from Hong Kong or overseas.

The school will be completed and put into use in September 2022. The Nansha district government has invited He Jingtang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Architectural Design and Research Institute of South China University of Technology to design the school.

The team completed the project site selection, development mode research, school use requirements and architectural scheme comparison and selection in only two months.

The preliminary design for the school has been completed, while additional design work is underway.
