Nansha Port Railway heads directly to Europe

Guangzhou Nansha Port Railway officially opened to traffic on Dec 31, 2021.

The Nansha Port Railway is a national first-class double-track electrified railway with a designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour and a total length of 88 km.

The completion of the railway means that a multi-modal transport network of ports, railways and highways has now fully taken shape. The railway is of great significance to the construction of sea-rail combined transport channel cored surrounding Nansha Port and improving the Guangzhou shipping hub.

The route will start at the Yayao line of Guangzhou-Zhuhai Railway, pass through Jiangmen, Zhongshan, Foshan and Guangzhou, and end in the Nansha Port area. Eight stations serving passengers and cargo are spread out across the line.

Freight trains traveling directly to Europe will depart from Nansha Port, which can greatly reduce the logistics cost of port industries.

Transportation time will be reduced by about 30 percent and logistics costs will be reduced by about 10 percent, according to officials from Guangzhou Port.
