Construction is set to begin on an energy-supply project making use of the public-private partnership model at the No 3 and No 4 energy stations in the starting area of Pearl Bay, local media outlets reported on Dec 22.

The two energy stations are located on the islands of Lingshan and Hengli, respectively, and have a total planned cooling area of 1.73 million square meters.

The No 3 energy station will provide a cold source for several secondary development projects on east Lingshan Island while the No 4 energy station will mainly be used to cool the permanent site of the International Finance Forum (IFF).

The stations will adopt conventional water chillers and ice storage energy systems. The power distribution capacity of the stations' power systems is 35 percent lower than conventional air conditioners, and its peak power consumption can be effectively transferred to 21.56 megawatts.

The centralized cooling power stations will contribute to the green development of the starting area of Pearl Bay. By improving the energy efficiency of the power system, the project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 39,000 metric tons over its service time.

The project will build an economic and efficient regional centralized cooling system, and strive to achieve the "3060 Carbon Target" - China's commitment to peaking carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
