The No 26 main tower on the Longxue Island side of Honglian Bridge, the last main tower on the bridge, has been capped, local media outlets reported on Dec 20.
Construction of the superstructure of the Honglian Bridge has been accelerated, laying a solid foundation for the bridge's operation in 2022.
The project is located at the estuary of the Pearl River, presenting significant difficulties for the high-altitude construction of the main tower due to the large ship flow, typhoon and gale, according to Gao Hao, chief engineer of Honglian Bridge's Wanqingsha section.
By applying building information modeling (BIM) technology, the project department has accurately controlled the structural size and linearity of each section. They have also strengthened the monitoring of tower crane aerial operation through the introduction of safety information systems.
The steel box girder lifting construction of the main bridge has also started, as the tops of the main towers have been capped. The first steel box girder of Honglian Bridge was successfully hoisted on Dec 9.
