The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Hainan province signed a strategic cooperation agreement to launch ro-ro passenger shipping services during the 2021 Global Shipping Finance Conference held in Nansha, Guangzhou on Dec 16.
The shipping route will pass through Nansha, Zhuhai in Guangdong, as well as Sanya and Wenchang in Hainan province.
It has been said that this service will allow passengers to get on board with their vehicles or trucks to make it more efficient, as it is a supplement to current high-speed rail, aviation and road transportation.
This marks yet another effort toward the integrated development of the Hainan Free Trade Port and the Greater Bay Area.
Pan Yuzhang of the Nansha Development Zone's administrative committee has said that the district will cast eyes on sectors spanning international shipping and global commerce and finance services and speed up the operation of major shipping infrastructure such as smart wharfs and the Nansha Port Railway in the future.
As the largest single port area in South China, Nansha enjoys the advantages of multi-modal transportation and has built the largest container, automobile, grain and general purpose terminals in South China.
In the future, the Greater Bay Area will make Nansha the core of the international shipping center and build an international high-end shipping financial hub.
