The Greater-Bay Science Forum 2021 opened on Dec 11, attended by more than 100 experts and scholars both online and onsite in Nansha district.
Provost of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) Lionel M Ni said that HKUST has incubated hundreds of unicorn businesses, including DJI. "This is a change in mindset, and we at HKUST (Guangzhou) are more empowered to do this and encourage students to become entrepreneurs".
Dean of the HKUST Fok Ying Tung Research Institute Gao Min said that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is already a world-class science and innovation center.
Gao also said that if the Greater Bay Area's strength in basic scientific research can help improve the industrial strength of the whole Greater Bay Area, he believed that the area can become the world's most powerful scientific innovation center.
At the forum, some science and technology enterprises in Nansha also brought their own high-tech products.
Guangzhou Ruyuan Holding Group's naked-eye 3D Holographic LED screen was used in the keynote report of the forum on Dec 11. The guest speaker was absent, but the holographic image appeared like a live presence.
During the forum, the Chinese and English subtitles of the speakers' speeches were displayed on a large screen in real time, accurately relaying the content of the lecture thanks to technology from iFLYTEK based in Nansha.
