The Guangzhou Nansha Port Railway, which is currently under construction, completed the change-over of its main track on Nov 29, laying a solid foundation for the opening of freight and passenger transport at the end of this year.
The Nansha Port Railway is a national first-class double-track electrified railway with a designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour and a total length of 88 km.
The route will start at the Yayao line of Guangzhou-Zhuhai Railway, pass through Jiangmen, Zhongshan, Foshan and Guangzhou, and end in the Nansha Port area.
The roadbed, bridge, tunnel and other main projects of the project have been completed, and the construction of electrical projects such as communications, signals, power supply and power cables are in the process of being completed.
As the first railway featuring both passenger and cargo transport to enter the Nansha Free Trade Zone, the Nansha Port Railway is an important part of the western region of the Pearl River Delta area freight corridor. Once completed, it will comprise a multi-modal transport network of ports, railways and highways.
The catenary and other related equipment and facilities of Nansha Port Railway will be electrified at midnight on Dec 8.
