The first steel box girder of the Honglian Bridge in Guangzhou's Nansha district has passed the approval process and paves the way for allowing the remaining steel box girders to enter the mass production stage, local media outlets reported on Nov 18.
It is expected that 35 percent of the bridge's steel box girders can be completed by the end of this year, which is a strong indicator that overall construction will remain on schedule as the bridge is scheduled to complete the construction of the main bridge's steel box girders in April 2022.
Honglian Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with two towers and two cable planes. The main bridge over Longxue South Waterway is 912 meters long and the main span is 580 meters, which is currently at the top of the list of multi-functional cable-stayed bridges of the same type in China.
The Honglian Bridge will carry the longest municipal multi-loop high-voltage cable, gas, communication and water pipelines in the country among bridges that utilize the same structure.
