Tingjiao Bridge readies to soar with upgrades

Dongxin Expressway is an important transportation artery in Nansha's convenient transportation network that connects downtown Guangzhou with the rest of the district. 

Tingjiao Bridge is a key link for the expressway and also connects to several local main roads such as Zhongchuan Middle Road and Xinlian Interchange. 

The Tingjiao Bridge has been in service for three decades and is 15 meters wide with four lanes. 

The recent inspection results of the bridge have shown that its overall operation status is poor. At present, the bridge's local department of management and maintenance has implemented a load limit of 20 metric tons.

In order to meet the current traffic demand, the widening and renovation project of the bridge is set to start in December 2021, which will enable the bridge to transport non-motor vehicles, pedestrians and civic pipelines.

The new construction project will start on the section running from S358 provincial highway in the west to Jingang Avenue in the east with a length of about 1.2 kilometer. It is designed to have six lanes in both directions with a speed of 60 km per hour. The total length of the bridge is about 971.58m.

The design of the main bridge will feature the elements of seagulls to simulate its soaring posture with a large wingspan.
