A collective ceremony for the signing, groundbreaking and completion of Guangzhou's major projects in the third quarter was held in Nansha district on Sept 26.

A number of 85 projects are in Nansha with a total investment of more than 340 billion yuan ($62 billion), accounting for a quarter of the total investment volume.

The district will start construction of 27 major projects in the third quarter at a cost of around 116.1 billion yuan and 26 projects will finish construction in the same time period.

In addition, a total of 32 projects were signed with an investment of about 138.6 billion yuan and their output value after operation is estimated to reach 139.94 billion yuan.

Nearly 40 percent of investments for Nansha's projects are under cooperation with Hong Kong or Macao.

Lionel M. Ni, the dean of HKUST (Guangzhou) said that HKUST is both a participant and a beneficiary of Nansha's construction of a demonstration zone for comprehensive cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao.

Over 60 projects are related to industries covering local major development areas spanning scientific innovation, advanced manufacturing and biomedicine, which are injecting new vitality into Nansha's industrial growth.

Nine infrastructure projects with an overall investment of 62 billion yuan have finished construction such as the Guangzhou Metro Line 18, which will shorten the travel time between Nansha and downtown Guangzhou after operation.
