The construction of Honglian Bridge in Guangzhou's Nansha district, connecting Wanqingsha town and Longxue Street community, has entered a crucial stage, local media outlets reported on Aug 18.

With a total length of 2,200 meters, Honglian Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with two towers, a double cable plane and mixed beam. The main span of the bridge is 580 meters, which is a national record.

It is scheduled that the bridge will be connected in March next year.

Once operational, the bridge is expected to remarkably boost the development of transportation and economy in the Nansha area of the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

In order to meet up with the demands of Longxue Island in water supply, power supply, gas supply and communication, Honglian Bridge will also be built with municipal pipelines such as multi-loop high voltage cables and water pipes, setting a new record among bridges in China that apply the same structure in terms of the scale of municipal pipelines.
