Guangdong Hengxing Group and Guangzhou Nansha Modern Agricultural Industry Group signed a cooperation framework agreement in Guangzhou's Nansha district on July 7, aimed at jointly planning a sustainable modern fishery industry project.
An industrial base for the modern fishery industry in Nansha will start construction in October this year. The whole process is set to take two years.
The first year of the process will see the construction for an aquatic seedling farm, renovation of the breeding ponds and construction of supporting facilities to achieve partial operation. After a second year of construction work, the base will be able to operate normally. It is scheduled that the base will be operational by 2023.
Upon becoming operational, the base will be able to produce 200 million fish fry with a total output value of 60 million yuan ($9 million), yield 10,000 metric tons of marketable fish worth 200 million yuan and process 30,000 tons of fish with an overall output value of 1 billion yuan.
Chen Dan, chairman of Hengxing Group, said that Nansha enjoys a unique geographic location and has strong development potential. These advantages are of great help for the company in terms of setting up a whole aquatic industrial chain in Nansha featuring sectors such as breeding, deep processing and cold-chain distribution.
Chen also noted during the event that Hengxing Group intends to relocate its food headquarters to Nansha. "Our company will no longer be the one simply relying on management of aquatic feed or breeding but a company oriented around the food industry of the future," Chen added.
