A lychee cultural festival was livestreamed from Guangzhou's Nansha district on June 10, marking the entry of Nansha lychees into the local market ahead of schedule.

The lychee plantation area in Nansha district - which is mainly focused around Huangge town and Nansha Street community - stands at 19,200 mu (1,280 hectares) in 2021, and the total yield is estimated to reach 4,200 metric tons.

One local farmer planting lychee from Huangge town said that this year's lychee entered the market around 10 days earlier than before, as the weather this year is warmer. The price of lychee this year is between 16 yuan ($2.5) to 24 yuan per kilogram, which is lower than that in 2020.

An official from Nansha's agriculture and rural affairs bureau noted that online promotion events will be held to help local farmers expand their markets and turn Nansha lychee into one of the highest-quality agricultural products representing the district.
