Daily necessities supply remains stable in Nansha amid COVID-19

Guangzhou's Nansha district has enough supplies to meet the needs of its 850,000 permanent residents for about 65 days, said Hui Lixin, deputy head of the district, at a June 8 press conference on epidemic prevention and control.

To be specific, Nansha is capable of supplying about 600 tons of vegetables, 500 tons of fruit, 300 tons of aquatic products, and 550 pigs daily. The amount and variety of commodities can easily satisfy the demands of local residents.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the district has compiled a contingency plan and assembled a supply task force consisting of government departments, supply enterprises, logistics enterprises and local communities. A 24-hour contact mechanism and a market supervision mechanism have also been established to ensure the stable supply and prices of daily necessities.

To date, a total of 48 supply enterprises and more than 230 logistics enterprises have joined the cause. For instance, Chinese autonomous vehicle startup Pony.ai has sent 60 autonomous driving vehicles and eight autonomous driving trucks to transport medical supplies and bulky items.

Residents of Jia'an Garden, which is under closed-off management, can place orders online and Meituan's autonomous driving vehicles will assist with delivery.
