A digital technology laboratory of carbon neutrality unveiled its plaque in Guangzhou's Nansha district on May 25, during a high-end forum held to discuss the district's green development.
The laboratory already started trial operations in 2020. Its aim is to provide digital solutions for realizing peak carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality by making full use of advanced technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence and block chain.
Luo Zhigang, a senior engineer from the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, noted that Nansha's industrial structure features technology industries and has a relatively high amount of carbon dioxide emissions per unit, making the district an ideal place for the growth of green companies.
Luo put forward eight suggestions for Nansha, such as releasing an action plan for realizing peak carbon emissions, launching climate investment and financing pilot policies, and encouraging companies to release green bonds.
Nansha reduced its energy consumption per unit of GDP by 24.84 percent between 2015 and 2020.
