Nansha's narcotic control work was given a boost on May 13 when the Nansha District Narcotic Control Education Base unveiled its plaque.

Covering a total area of more than 3,000 square meters, the base is currently the largest of its kind in Guangzhou, with the most complete suite of functions and the most exhibits.

The base is divided into six exhibition areas, each with different purposes. Sensory tools such as sound, light and electricity are employed to allow visitors to explore the scenes of famous historical stories, including the Humen Opium Destruction and the Opium War.

Interactive experience equipment, built using independent research and development, is available in the exhibition halls. This includes a virtual reality experience in a poppy field, which lets visitors gain a greater understanding about the harm that drugs can cause.

Currently, the base is only open to group visits with reservations. Visitor numbers are limited to 100 per day.
