Tourist attractions in Guangzhou's Nansha district welcomed 704,800 visitors during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5, up 70.98 percent year-on-year, local media outlets reported on May 6.
The tourist number was 24.04 percent higher than the figure from the same time period in 2019, before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to incomplete statistics, the overall business volume of Nansha's tourism industry during the five-day holiday is estimated to have increased 58.15 percent year-on-year to 57.17 million yuan ($8.85 million), which was also 9.5 percent higher than the figure during the same time period in 2019.
Various kinds of cultural tourism events were staged during the holiday such as the 13th Mazu Cultural Tourism Festival, the carnival at Guangzhou Nansha International Cruise Home Port and the first Pearl Bay music festival.
