Guangzhou's Nansha district kicked off its spring sowing season on March 11, laying a solid foundation for this year's harvest.
The total plantation area in Nansha district amounts to 270,000 mu (18,000 hectares), and the spring sowing area is 84,300 mu.
"Our village is expected to plant more than 500 mu of rice paddies. The first phase of plantation is over 170 mu," said Zhang Zhiyong, a farmer in Shiji village, Dongchong town.
Zhang noted that he is filled with confidence as he has gained technical support from Guangzhou academy of agricultural sciences and a subsidy from Nansha district.

"Mechanized measures are widely applied in our daily production and plantation. Unmanned aerial vehicles are used for pesticide application, fertilization and sowing to further increase production efficiency," added Zhang.
A relevant person in charge of Nansha's agriculture and rural affairs bureau said that efforts have been made to offer strong technical support for local agricultural production, and technical service teams have been dispatched to towns and villages to promote advanced technologies and top-quality seeds.
Adjustments to agricultural processes have been pushed forward, such as promoting the planting of higher-quality species, establishing a batch of high-quality production bases, and guiding supermarkets and farmers' markets to carry out direct matchmaking with local agricultural producers.
