Guangzhou's Nansha district outlined its work initiatives and outcomes in terms of facilitating cross-border trade and commerce during a press conference held on March 4 in Guangzhou.
Pan Yuzhang, deputy director of the administrative committee of Nansha, said that the district was listed as one of the 10 national demonstration districts for promoting innovation in the import trade by the Ministry of Commerce during the 3rd China International Import Expo, held in Shanghai in November 2020.
The designation is expected to help Nansha further facilitate its cross-border trade and commerce while becoming a high-level opening-up gateway hub.
Nansha's total import and export volume reached 226.54 billion yuan ($35 billion) in 2020, growing 6 percent year-on-year and accounting for 23.8 percent of Guangzhou's total volume. The district's import volume in 2020 was 101.92 billion, accounting for 24.8 percent of the city's total.
The district has formed new trade models and forms such as cross-border e-commerce, "parallel imports" of automobiles, financial leasing of aircraft, bulk commodities, and bonded artwork imports.
Initiatives will be taken by Nansha to better become a national demonstration district for promoting innovation in the import trade, such as building a core base for the import of large-scale advanced technical equipment, setting up distribution centers for consumer goods, establishing global distribution hubs for bulk commodities, and optimizing the import business environment.
