District government work report released

The seventh session of 3rd Nansha District People's Congress commenced on Feb 24, with 197 deputies attending the meeting.

Dong Ke, mayor of Nansha district, delivered the district government work report for 2020 during the conference.

Dong said that the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20) was of vital significance in Nansha's development history and that the district has achieved its high-quality development goals, with huge progress in regional economic growth. 

The district was ranked 12th out of 218 national economic development zones in 2020 – 15 places higher than in 2017.

The regional gross domestic product (GDP) of Nansha district saw a growth of 73.6 percent from 2016 to 2020, with the number climbing from 106.32 billion yuan ($16.45 billion) in 2016 to 184.61 billion yuan in 2020. The average annual increase reached 9.6 percent. 

Nansha's GDP in 2020 amounted to 184.61 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 7.1 percent, and its general public budget revenue has grown by 7.5 percent year-on-year to 9.03 billion yuan. Nansha's tax revenue in 2020 reached 45.03 billion yuan, up 10.2 percent, and its overall import and export volume increased by 6 percent to 226.54 billion yuan.

The growth rates of all four aforementioned economic indexes all came top in Guangzhou.

Nansha's fixed-asset investment was 92.22 billion yuan, up 22.2 percent, ranking second in the city in terms of its growth rate. 

As the year 2021 marks the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Nansha district will strive to increase its regional GDP by around 10 percent annually to 300 billion yuan during the period.

Efforts will be made in areas such as realizing high-quality development, building the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a scientific innovation hub, becoming a demonstration zone in China for comprehensive cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, as well as building a demonstration zone for high-quality life in the Greater Bay Area.

Major goals for 2021 were also put forward during the meeting. For example, the regional GDP is expected to grow by more than 10 percent, the general public budget revenue to increase by 8 percent and the import and export volume to increase by 3 percent.
