Updated: 2021-02-26chinadaily.com.cn

Guangzhou Metro Line 22 will be extended to Dongguan and Shenzhen, according to Jiang Li, deputy director of the Guangzhou municipal planning and natural resources bureau, who confirmed the news during a press conference on Feb 24.

Line 22, currently under construction, is expected to have a designated speed of 160 kilometers per hour. It will cut the travel time between downtown Guangzhou and Nansha district to 20 minutes.

The first phase of the metro line, from Panyu Square to Chetougang, is scheduled to be put into operation in 2021.

Nansha will assume the position of a middle hub, as one side of the metro line connects it to downtown Guangzhou and the other side will stretch to Dongguan and Shenzhen.

The new line will connect Nansha Science City, Dongguan Binhaiwan New District and Guangming Science City in Shenzhen, boosting the development of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Science and Technology Innovation Corridor while promoting talent circulation and industrial cooperation.
