Guangzhou Public Resources Trading Center released a notice on Feb 11 inviting bids on the research and design of the first phase of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Mingzhu Science Park in Guangzhou's Nansha district.

The Guangzhou branch of CAS and the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology of CAS will be relocated to the Mingzhu Science Park, as will part of the CAS South China Botanical Garden.

The tentatively-named Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao science and big data research institute will build a network data center in the park.

The project, costing 5.25 billion yuan ($811.28 million), is located to the east of the Zhujiang Street community and covers a total area of around 306 mu (20.4 hectares).

A talent apartment complex will also be built in the north part of the park, covering a total area of about 119 mu.

The Guangzhou branch of CAS will build a science center in the park that opens to the public, setting up exhibition areas for fields such as earth and planetary sciences, marine sciences, life sciences, as well as plant and agricultural sciences. It will also hold regular activities and training for youths to promote scientific knowledge.

The overall design of the park will make full use of the local natural landscape and create a new cultural landscape at the same time.
