The new Nansha Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) building held a plaque-unveiling ceremony on Feb 9, marking a step forward in the construction of Nansha's public health system.
Yang Zhicong, director of the Guangzhou CDC, welcomed the inauguration of the new building and praised Nansha CDC's efforts in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new building, located to the south of Huangge Avenue in Nansha, covers a total area of 5,599 square meters and has a floorage of 10,591.5 sq m, of which 3,150 sq m are underground. It has a total of 90 parking spaces.

The building contains 11 types of laboratory such as the molecular biology laboratory, the serology laboratory, the intestinal bacteria laboratory, the HIV preliminary screening laboratory and the parasitic diseases laboratory, in order to meet demand both in terms of the prevention and control of serious infectious diseases and the monitoring of food safety.
The polymerize chain reaction (PCR) laboratory on the sixth floor of the building contains highly advanced equipment, such as a gene amplifier. The laboratory is able to conduct COVID-19 nucleic acid tests.
A person in charge of Nansha CDC said that the operation of the new building is expected to fully upgrade Nansha's capabilities in preventing and controlling various kinds of diseases and public health emergencies, offering strong technical support for local people's health and safety.
