The Nansha Port railway, one of the biggest transportation projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, was connected to the Guangzhou-Zhuhai intercity railway on Feb 3, marking a key breakthrough in the construction of the west Pearl River Delta's cargo transportation channel.
The Nansha Port railway, which stretches around 88 kilometers, connects Jiangmen, Zhongshan, Foshan and Guangzhou. The design speed of the railway is 120 km per hour.
As the first cargo railway in the Nansha area of the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the Nansha Port railway will allow container trains to reach Europe directly via sea-rail intermodal transportation.
After it becomes operational, the Nansha Port railway will help establish a "three-dimensional" transport network, incorporating roads, railways and ports, which will further cut down on logistics costs.
