A deal between Guangzhou's Nansha district and assorted well-known design agencies and design masters was finalized at a signing ceremony held in Nansha on Feb 3.

The district signed strategic cooperation frameworks with five outstanding design agencies from both home and abroad, namely Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (Europe) LLP, Internationales Stadtbauatelier, Arup International Consultants (Shanghai) Co Ltd, Guangdong Architectural Design and Research Institute Co Ltd and AECOM Design and Consulting (Shenzhen) Co Ltd.

A consultation agreement was also signed between Nansha and the design studio of Sun Yimin, a famous architect and dean of the School of Architecture at South China University of Technology.

The signing ceremony is expected to encourage more excellent design resources to settle down in Nansha district and to make full use of its professional advantages in upgrading the district's urban design standards.

Outstanding experts will be invited to be members of Nansha's urban planning committee to participate in major government decisions.

The district will use areas from home and abroad - such as Hebei's Xiong'an New Area, New York, London, Singapore and Tokyo - as examples to build a high-quality urban space which is of diversified vitality, environmentally-livable, people-oriented and well-organized.

Chen Xiong, deputy director of Guangdong Architectural Design and Research Institute Co Ltd, put forward three suggestions for Nansha in terms of overall planning, namely cultivating a batch of distinctive projects with local styles, focusing on the quality and details of small facilities and spaces, and paying attention to management and control during the whole process from design to implementation.
