Guangzhou's Nansha district achieved good outcomes in the development of its modern urban agricultural sector in 2020, with total output standing at 10.33 billion yuan ($1.6 billion) and with a year-on-year growth of 10.2 percent, a historical new high.

Nansha's fisheries also gained great momentum in 2020, and their production value increased by 28.2 percent year-on-year.

Construction work on a freshwater fish breeding center began in Nansha in January, the first project of its kind in the South China region to focus on the breeding of fish.

A total of 27 agricultural products were signed or started construction in 2020, with an overall investment of 66.36 billion yuan, much higher than 2019's 716 million yuan. Twenty-three of the projects started construction in 2020 at a cost of 18.82 billion yuan, both ranking top in China in terms of the number of projects and the size of the investment.

The crop plantation area in Nansha in 2020 was 20,400 mu (1,360 hectares), a 9.4 percent year-on-year increase, and the yield increased by 14.7 percent year-on-year to 6,600 metric tons.
