More financial support will be offered for the construction of Guangzhou's metro lines, officials from the Guangzhou municipal finance bureau said on Jan 19.

It was also announced that the first phase of Metro Line 18, the first phase of Metro Line 22 and the west extension part of Metro Line 7 will all be put into operation in 2021.

Metro lines 18 and 22, stretching more than 90 kilometers, will become the fastest metro lines in China, with a designated speed of 160 km per hour.

Metro Line 18 starts from Wanqingsha town in Nansha district and ends at Guangzhou East Railway Station, connecting Nansha, Panyu, Haizhu and Tianhe districts. Metro Line 22 connects Nansha, Panyu, and Liwan districts.

After completion, the two lines will connect all major transportation hubs in Guangzhou. It is expected that travel between the Nansha area of the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone and Guangzhou South Railway Station will be shortened to 25 minutes, while the travel time to Guangzhou East Railway Station will be just 30 minutes.

These lines will also be extended to nearby cities in the future such as Zhuhai, Zhongshan and Dongguan, further supporting the development of the Nansha area of the China (Guangdong) Pilot FTZ as well as the integrated development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
