An overarching plan for the construction of a comprehensive transport hub in Guangzhou's Nansha district from 2020 to 2035 was released recently, according to local media reports on Jan 4.
The document indicates that Nansha will be built into an important international comprehensive transportation hub, a regional transportation center for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as a demonstration zone for green and intelligent transportation.
A modern comprehensive transportation system integrating railways, aviation, shipping and highways will be established in Nansha to form a half-hour-long transportation circle.
Two railway lines - namely the Guangzhou-Zhuhai high-speed rail and Nansha-Zhuhai intercity railway - will be linked to Nansha and Guangzhou metro lines such as lines 18, 22 and 4, and will also connect Nansha with downtown Guangzhou.
The district will also build a modern international comprehensive gateway port featuring both passenger and cargo transportation, covering local port areas such as Nansha Port, Shazai Island, and Xiaohu Island.
