Pony.ai wins 1st GBA truck autonomous driving road test plate

Autonomous driving startup Pony.ai has won the first autonomous driving road test plate for trucks issued by Guangzhou, being the first of its kind in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, local media outlets reported on Dec 17.

Pony.ai signed an agreement to settle in Guangzhou's Nansha district in 2017 and started normal trial operation of its autonomous driving vehicles in the district in 2018.

Pony.ai has conducted several complicated scenario tests for its truck autonomous driving, such as the identification of and response to traffic lights, avoidance, following, merging, overtaking, as well as emergency stopping.

The road test is expected to accelerate the verification of the company's technologies, as well as push forward the technologies' application and trial in logistics areas.

Pony.ai showcased its hardware and software system on autonomous driving for heavy trucks at the L4-level for the first time during the third China International Import Expo in November this year.
