Mingzhuwan Bridge in Guangzhou's Nansha district is scheduled to finish the construction of its main span before Spring Festival in 2021, which falls on Feb 12, the person in charge of the construction project announced.

The bridge is located at the estuary of the Pearl River where typhoons often occur from June to October. The average number of typhoons in this area is 2.85, with a maximum sustained wind level of over 15.

A great amount of technical preparations have been done in the earlier stage to ensure that construction can be done from June to October.

The construction group has signed an employment agreement on Dec 2 with Chen Zhengqing, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a prestigious expert in engineering mechanics, to cooperate in the research of anti-typhoon theories and innovative technologies for the bridge.

Chen noted that the bridge has broken the world record for its overall scale among all bridges with the same structure and that the construction of the bridge means a lot to the development of China's bridge construction industry.
