Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) will start construction of its world comprehensive industrial base for green agricultural products in Nansha's Longxue Island in the first half of 2021, officials announced during a contract signing ceremony held on Nov 23.

The contract was jointly signed by the Nansha commerce bureau, LDC, Donlink Group, and Haid Group in Nansha district.

Covering a total area of more than 270 mu (18 hectares), the first phase of the base will include LDC's headquarters in the South China region, the research and development center for innovative food, as well as the feed protein processing lines.

The first phase is expected to have an overall investment of more than 1.2 billion yuan ($182.65 million), while the output value of the base after reaching design capacity will amount to over 7 billion yuan.

LDC is a world leading company managing the commerce and processing of agricultural products that was founded in 1851. The company was listed as 302nd on the Fortune 500 in 2019, with an annual revenue of $40.6 billion.

A person in charge of the project noted that LDC is very glad to locate its base in Nansha district as Nansha enjoys a unique geographic location for being in the central area of the Pearl River Delta (PRD).

The person added that the base in Nansha will team with its fat food processing plant in Guangdong's Dongguan to become an important industrial base in the PRD.
