The launching ceremony for the celebration of the third Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival in Guangzhou's Nansha district was held in the modern urban agricultural demonstration park in the Pearl Bay on Sept 22.
The Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival was set up in 2018 and is celebrated on the autumn equinox every year.
This year's event, held by the Nansha agriculture and rural affairs bureau, aims to highlight local folk culture, promote Nansha's new development model in modern agriculture, as well as showcase the district's achievements in poverty alleviation.
"I'm very happy for being able to attend the event here," said Liu Xinjian, a local blue crab breeder. He added that he will welcome the harvest season, with the yield of his blue crab breeding farm expected to increase by 3 to 5 percent.
A total of six modern agricultural projects were signed during the ceremony, including the industrialization project of Nansha's blue crab breeding, the headquarters industrial park project for China's intelligent fishing industry, as well as the scientific innovation center for China's tropical agriculture.
A series of activities for Nansha's celebration of the festival will last until Oct 8, spanning an exhibition on Nansha's rural revitalization and an agricultural carnival.
A person in charge of the Nansha agriculture and rural affairs bureau noted that the total value of Nansha's agricultural output has consistently been ranking among the top two in Guangzhou in recent years.
The per capita disposable income of rural residents in Nansha increased by 10.6 percent year-on-year to 34,197 yuan in 2019, with the growth rate being higher than that of urban residents for six consecutive years.
