A great white pelican from Nansha Bird Park appeared on the Jiangmen Waihai Bridge in Guangdong's Jiangmen on Aug 31, attracting great attention on social media.

Nansha Bird Park said that more than 20 great white pelicans flew from Nansha to Jiangmen on that day and five of them lost their way back.

The breeder of these great white pelicans noted that the pelicans usually leave the park from 7:30 am to 9:30 am every day and return before 3 pm to eat.

Apart from Jiangmen, these pelicans have also been spotted in other nearby areas, including Shenzhen, Zhongshan, Dongguan, Hong Kong, and Macao.

Great white pelicans are currently under second-class state protection. The Guangdong Institute of Applied Biological Resources and the South China Institute of Endangered Animals have started daily observation of pelicans by selecting nine of them from Nansha Bird Park to install navigation locators since 2018.
