A total of 4.62 million fries covering 10 fish species, including grass carp, bass, and black sea bream, were released to the Lingding Sea south of Shijiuchong on Aug 13. It was the second event of its kind held by Nansha district this year.
The overall financial investment for the fries was nearly 200,000 yuan ($28,792.30).
As an important measure in building beautiful rivers, the annual release activity can make full use of the functions of aquatic organisms, such as fish and shrimp, functions in maintaining the ecological balance of the water body to realize ecological restoration.
"These fries, such as sea bass and black sea bream, are specialty aquatic products in Nansha and they are very suitable to be released to achieve ecological restoration," said a relevant person in charge from the Nansha agriculture and rural affairs bureau.
Nansha has released more than 150 million fries, including black carp, grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp and Chinese sturgeons, since 2006.
The district possessed a total aquaculture breeding area of 103,300 mu (6,886.67 hectares) by 2019, accounting for around 30 percent of the total area in Guangzhou, while the aquaculture output value achieved by Nansha in 2019 amounted to 3.79 billion yuan.
