The bridge of the Nansha Port railway project crossing the Xijiang River has finished hanging all its stay cables on July 22, laying a solid foundation for its further construction.

Located at the junction of Foshan and Jiangmen in Guangdong province, the bridge is one of the major transportation projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Being 1,117.5 meters in length, the H-shaped bridge has a main span of 600 meters and 192 stay cables. Currently, it has the largest span among all two-way freight railway bridges applying the same shape in the world.

The Nansha Port railway project, which will be an important component of the freight channels in the west of the Pearl River Delta, stretches about 88 kilometers with a designed speed of 120 km per hour. Connecting Jiangmen, Zhongshan, Foshan, and Guangzhou, the project will further elevate the competitiveness of Nansha Port and realize rail-water transit to lower logistics cost for companies alongside the railway.

In addition, the railway will contribute to the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative as container trains will be able to reach Europe directly from Nansha Port after completion.
